Multicultural Early Childhood Development, S.U.C.C.E.S.S.

Immigrant families are connected to the Early Childhood Development team to receive support for individual needs. Families can participate in parent education workshops and family-oriented activities to support their wellness in the community.

The Tri-Cities Wrap Around Model of Care for Mental Health in Immigrant Families project aims to support the community in promoting mental health literacy by:

  • Supporting immigrant families with a coordinated model of care that would enhance their mental health and wellbeing

  • Strengthening the capacity of early years’ service providers in mental health promotion and literacy through training, tools, and knowledge exchange. Learn more about training opportunities.

Service Eligibility

  • Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, and Farsi-speaking immigrant families with children between 0 to 6 years

  • Reside in the Tri-Cities (Anmore, Belcarra, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam or Port Moody).

First Nations Health Authority (FNHA)

The first and only provincial First Nations Health Authority in Canada. Their community based services focus on health promotion and disease prevention and include: primary health care through medical health centres and nursing stations, children, youth and maternal health, health benefits and more.

Doulas for Aboriginal Families Grant Program

The Doulas for Aboriginal Families Grant Program (DAFGP) is offered by the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres, First Nations Health Authority, and the BC Ministry of Health. The goal of the program is to increase healthy birth outcomes for Indigenous families by removing the cost barrier to accessing doula services.

The grant program provides Indigenous families living in BC up to $1,200.00 (maximum) of coverage for full spectrum doula support with each pregnancy.

Since 2013, the DAFGP has funded +1,300 pregnancies, and currently has +200 registered doulas.


Perinatal Services BC

Offers resources developed with and for Indigenous Peoples, such as a Pregnancy Passport - a culturally appropriate health promotion resource empowering women and families through their sacred journey of pregnancy. Also available is a guide on Emotional Health in pregnancy and early parenthood for Indigenous people and their families.


 Spirit of the Children Society

An Indigenous non-profit society serving families in the Burnaby, New Westminster, and the Tri-Cities area (Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody). Works to empower and strengthen Indigenous families by providing support and resources through the programs that are offered.
